Day 1: Arrival at the airport – Transfer to Volcanoes

On arrival, our guide or representative from the company will be waiting for you at the airport. Meet and greet, after transfer to Kigali city for a tour around if time allows, lunch and a jaw-dropping drive to Volcanoes National Park in Musanze district.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking Excursion – Kigali.

Be at the starting point or park headquarters in time for a short briefing conducted and group allocation. Later you will start the trek in a group following the trails that lead you into the jungle.

The time taken and distance moved until you locate the Gorilla family depends on where it spent the last night. You are required to come along with packed food and drinking water.

After the experience, you will return to the lodge for relaxation as you get prepared for the two-hour drive back to Kigali.

Day 3: Kigali – Drive to Akagera.

Get prepared early in the morning, have breakfast and check out at the hotel for a 2-3 hour drive to Akagera National Park in the Eastern part of the country.

The drive rewards with spectacular views of roadside scenery. You will arrive in time for lunch, and check in at the lodge for lunch and relaxation.

Day 4: Game drive and boat cruise on Lake Ihema.

Lake Ihema is the biggest lake in Akagera. Tourists seeking a variation on the typical African safari should consider a boat trip on Lake Ihema, where you can drift along the forest-fringed body of water in the midst of hippos and crocodiles.

You will start with a morning game drive around the Park suburbs. From the pop-up of the vehicle, you will not stop admiring the awe-inspiring views of Wild animals like elephants, buffaloes, kobs, bushbucks and other animals in the Wilderness.

After the 3-4 hours’ drive return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon you will have a breathtaking boat cruise on Lake Ihema.

Day 5: Akagera – Transfer to Kigali – Return flight.

Enjoy your morning breakfast, after check out for a great drive back to Kigali city. Stop over for lunch, money exchange in the banks, visit craft shops and later drop off at the airport.

– Afternoon: Enjoy a leisurely lunch at the lodge.
– Afternoon Game Drive: Head out for your first game drive in the park. Spot animals such as elephants, giraffes, zebras, antelopes, and a variety of bird species.
– Evening: Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Full Day in Akagera National Park

Akagera has an inspiring conservation story as it is now home to lions and rhinos, and is the only Big Five park in the country. Just two hours’ drive from Kigali, it is a beautiful and convenient savannah landscape to visit, and an easy site to add on to before or after visiting the gorillas

– Morning Game Drive: Start the day early with a game drive to see the park’s wildlife in the morning light.
– Lunch: Return to the lodge for lunch.
– Afternoon Boat Safari: Take a boat trip on Lake Ihema. Look out for hippos, crocodiles, and numerous bird species, including the rare shoebill stork.
– Evening: Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 3: Akagera to Volcanoes National Park

– Morning: After breakfast, depart Akagera National Park.
– Travel Time: Approximately 5-6 hours drive to Volcanoes National Park, with a stop for lunch along the way.
– Afternoon: Arrive at Volcanoes National Park and check in at your lodge.
– Evening: Relax at the lodge, enjoy the scenic views of the volcanoes, and have dinner.

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

There are 3 Volcanic summits within Volcanoes National Park including Mount Karisimbi, Mount Bisoke and Mount Muhabura. Mount Karisibi is the most popular for volcano hiking given its beautiful snow-caped top and the wonderful views it offers to hikers for the surroundings.

– Early Morning: Have an early breakfast and proceed to the park headquarters for a briefing on gorilla trekking.
– Gorilla Trekking: Embark on the trek to see the mountain gorillas. This can take anywhere from 2 to 6 hours depending on the location of the gorillas.
Afternoon: Return to the lodge for a late lunch and rest.
– Evening: Enjoy a cultural visit to the nearby Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village to learn about Rwandan culture and traditions.
– Dinner and Overnight: Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Golden Monkey Trekking and Return to Kigali

– Morning: After an early breakfast, head out for golden monkey trekking. These playful primates are another unique attraction in Volcanoes National Park.
– Late Morning: Return to the lodge, freshen up, and check out.
– Travel Time: Approximately 2-3 hours drive back to Kigali.
– Afternoon: Arrive in Kigali and have a late lunch.
– City Tour: If time permits, visit some of Kigali’s highlights such as the Kimironko Market, Inema Arts Center, or the Kigali Genocide Memorial.
– Evening: Transfer to Kigali International Airport for your departure or check into a hotel if you are staying in Kigali.
